Do you think this is good for 7th grade writing?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

My sister is in 7th grade and is trying to figure out a story to start with. She was typing this by random and showed it to me. I told her it was well done for a 12 year old. Do you think this is pretty good beginning for a 12 year old? Is the beginning hooking you? Any changes she needs so far?

(P.S. Not the entire story but the beginning typed in a Word Document)

As the young widow, Renee Scott, wiped tears from her eyes, her daughter patted her back and tried best to cheer her from her husband

How much do reviews affect your game purchasing?

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

We all know that gaming can be a painfully expensive hobby.

But how do video game reviews affect your purchasing? Do you always wait for a review before buying? Do reviews absolutely determine whether or not you make the purchase?

What are your guys’ feelings on game reviews?

It does have a certain effect. Reading reviews between NBA Live 09 and NBA 2k9 are what made me choose 2k9, because I had originally wanted Live.

Sometimes ratings are innaccurate especially because they’re merely opinions. I get extremly pissed when I read a good review for a game and get a horrible game.

If I’m borderline between buying a game and get a really good review, I might buy it, just like if I read a horrible one, I might not.

Starred.

Gohan Reborn | Dec 12, 2008

renting is better for me personally because everyone has different opinions/
deathtomessenger | Dec 12, 2008

i dont listen to them, i prefer to choose for myself.
Tabby | Dec 12, 2008

i usually read most reviews but only on the site i’m buying it from even though it takes years for me to actually purchase it. It also greatly depends on the Price
vX~vOBLIVIONv~Xv | Dec 12, 2008

Before I buy any game i personally reasearch it and read reviews and consumer ratings on it. Only then will i decide to make a purchase.
V | Dec 12, 2008

only a little bit because i know sometimes people get paid to write good reviews
mdluffy | Dec 12, 2008

I always read Game Informer before going to purchase a new game. It’s the only review magazine for video games that I trust. The others are all biased.
Fuego | Dec 12, 2008

I usually read reviews unless it is a sequel that I know will be good (Gears of War 2, GTA 4, etc). Most reviews are out in magazines less than a month after it releases so I usually wait and read it then decide. Or if all I hear is others gushing about how awesome it is.
Daniel C | Dec 12, 2008

It doesn’t really, sometimes they hate the games that I love. I purchase often games that I played the demo of.

How is safe gaurding Baghdad going to determine the success of the surge?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I mean Baghdad is only one city in a very large country. Are we saying that if you secure this one city that that will stop the violence in all the other cities through out the country? What about Southern Iraq near Basra, the Sunni Triangle and all the other areas throughout the country where the insurgents are prominenet?

It can never be safeguarded!
Sami V | Apr 07, 2008

Baghdad is the capital of Iraq. It is the center of operations for the war and the center of the new Iraqi government. If Baghdad is secure the government will have opportunity to train police and soldiers needed to secure the rest of the country.
gerafalop | Apr 07, 2008

Even if we win I’ll never be sure what we won.
emal2me | Apr 07, 2008

Well, it is more than just Baghdad. We are trying to safeguard other important areas as well, but Baghdad is especially important because it represents the Iraqi government that we hope will be able to sustain peace and leadership when the troops pullout. If Baghdad is toppled then the surge will be viewed as a failure because it is the "political heartbeat" of Iraq.

Can someone explain An American Haunting?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I just watched it and I was totally confused the entire time. I feel like I missed a lot of stuff. Can anyone explain it to me?

The film is based on the novel The Bell Witch: An American Haunting, by Brent Monahan. The events in the novel are based on the legend of the Bell Witch. The film switches from the 19th Century to the 21st Century and features a side story about a recently divorced mother whose daughter is going through something like the same experience as Betsy Bell.

Ryan | Dec 27, 2008

Based on a local Tennessee folklore legend. With over 20 books written on the subject, and a town that still lives in fear of the return of the unseen spirit, the story of "An American Haunting" is terrifying. Between the years 1818-1820, the Bell Family of Red River, Tennessee was visited by an unknown presence that haunted the family and eventually ended up causing the death of one its members. Starting with small sounds around the farm, and the sighting of a a strange BLACK WOLF with piercing yellow eyes, the sounds escalated into full brutal contact with the certain family members, causing psychological and physical torment. The attacks grew in strength, with the spirit slapping, pulling, dragging, and beating the Bell’s youngest daughter. The Bells searched for rational explanations and ways to rid their house of this entity, but to no avail as the spirit began to communicate with them through sounds, and eventually multiple voices that sounded like the wind. The cause of its actions could always be felt, but no being could be seen, and no explanation found- only the promise that one day it would kill one of the family members. Fearing that the haunting was caused by a local woman -branded a witch- who had put a curse upon the family as a result of a land dispute, the Bells tried desperately to find ways to get rid of the woman’s curse, yet the attacks and disturbances only escalated. It was not until a manuscript of the local schoolteacher -who lived on the property during the disturbance- was found in 1998 that the horrifying and shocking answer to what caused this haunting would finally be unveiled. basically, both mothers in the different centuries are unaware of the sexual abuse of their daughters; and the daughters r being haunted so the mothers will find out and protect them

How do you remove a picture from google images?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

I recently tried googling my full name and I saw my picture.
It was a photo I posted on facebook.
I want to remove this photof rom google.. How do i do that?
By the way, i removed the picture from facebook, but it still apears in google images..
And why out of all the pictures of my on facebook, google chose that particular one to have in their image results?

You can’t. Google updates its search every so often- usually every couple of weeks, i think, to include new images and delete old ones. A representation of your picture is stored on google servers, and will continue to show up for a while longer.
As for why it did it, its a result of google’s mysterious algorithm. If anyone figured out how it worked, and why, they’d be rich. Just goes to show you how cautious you need to be on the internet.

tsbski | Nov 02, 2008

you can’t. its in the system forever. its inside google main source and memory. you cannont delete pictures from google images. sorry!
Kbaby | Nov 02, 2008

wats ur name? i wanna see your face lol
Stanley Y | Nov 02, 2008

delete it from fb, then it’ll be gone when google next indexes images
IDIDOTH | Nov 02, 2008

Like most pictures you can right click on the picture and either delete it or move it to another folder.

I do it all the time and never realized it could be a problem for anyone.
ronmac60 | Nov 02, 2008

You can’t. Google’s search engine has faced lot of criticism on this matter that it leaves no one in this world with any privacy. But in the end its their call. Unless you are some government official or something is very vital to your functioning has been stored in their index, they won’t remove it.
Hope | Nov 02, 2008

There is nothing that you can do.

ronmac60 , that is the single dumbest post I have ever seen on here.
squeek | Nov 02, 2008

man that stinks…
from now on, if you dont want your face on the internet, dont put it up. you never know who will see it or where it ill end up!
vginnia | Nov 03, 2008

Can’t, it’s in google’s cache.
If you’re lucky, the image disappears.

Otherwise, there are some company’s that are removing things from google for you. Use google to find them :)

This is maybe also helpfull: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters /bin/topic.py?topic=8459

KNEE problem…need help please!!?

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

so the otehr day i was playing soccer and went hard on some kid and we both fell on the ground. On the way down my knee cap hit the turf pretty harsh i would say. Right after i hit it it hurt and was bugging me, but i didn’t stop and kept playing. i was limping a little bit but it didn’t hurt enough for me to stop playing, or i tohught so. The next day i could walk but not without pain and i could bend my knee but also with pain. so i did what every athlete does and use the RICE method. did that for a few days and my knee got better. it was still swallon but nto as much and the pain was getting smaller. now a week later i can walk normally but i still have this cooling pain on the TOP of my RIGHT KNEECAP. and when i bend it it hurt a tiny bti then goes away, until i stretch it again or try to bend it. it only hurts a little bit then it goes away. for some reason it’s still swallon a bit but not too much.

i went to the doctors but they didn’t sya anything bad. just use the RICEmethod

Mare you haven’t really put in a question. Seems to me you’ve answered it your self. If the pain is decreasing and the inflammation decreasing then your doing the right things. It sounds like your knee is to the point where you can do some light exercise on it. Still try to avoid contact on it and heavy sprint and agility work but try to just do some jogging and strength exercises on it. Sounds like you are on the road to recovery mate keep with it!

It might be helpful to use a cold compression wrap on your knee. Coldone makes one you can see at http://www.coldoneinc.com/knee_wrap.html .

You still need to rest the knee as each time you feel pain you are slightly re-injuring the area and preventing complete healing.

Good Luck.

what are all of the bad things that happened in the poltergeist movie?

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

i heard that there was a curse and i was wondering all the things that happended. and did you know someone else is directing a remake and its coming out next year??

There really shouldn’t be a remake, the original was too good. Um, there’s a ton of stuff, especially towards the end. In the beginning, the youngest daughter gets sucked in the TV, one of the guy’s face melts in the mirror, the steak with the maggots that moves by itself, the tree that comes alive and tried to eat the boy, the toy clown that tries to strangle the boy, the mother being sucked onto the ceiling, the demon head that explodes out of the door, the ghost blocking the doorway, the coffins exploding from the floor, the skeletons in the pool, and finally, the house being sucked out of existence.

The girl who played the oldest sister was murdered right after the movie was released, and the little girl who was the star (Heather something) died of kidney failure (uremic poisoning) during the filming of the 3rd one.
lupedeloupe | Mar 16, 2009

they say the movies were cursed because 4 of the actors in them died in a 6 year period. but 2 of the deaths were actually from terminal cancer, heather o’rourke died of sepsis from a bowel obstruction, and dominic dunne was murdered by an ex boyfriend. nothing supernatural about any of them. and yes, i’ve heard about the remake. the original was fine on its own; i wish they wouldn’t bother.
